The Cahuita National Park


Cahuita National ParkThe Cahuita National Park was created 35 years ago to protect its vast riches in flora and fauna, it counts with an area of 1068 hectares in the land and 600 in the marine sectorof the park.

There is a beautiful trail that goes right through Cahuita National Park. There are two entrances to the park with Information Centers at each side: the first one is located right at the end of the village itself the second being on the opposite side of a 7 km long ( some 4.4 miles) trail that runs parallel to the coast line. At this second entrance you can find the Park Administrative offices and a nice camping area. There is a bus that joins these 2 entrances.

Don´t miss this walk, it offers not only beautiful views of the ocean and its beaches but also the opportunity to see the abundant wild lifeof thisarea. It is not unusual to come across monkeys, coatis and a variety birds on your way. The secret is to be the first one in early in the morning, do not wear orange, red or too colorful clothes, walk quietly and listen, your ear will guide your eyes.

To fully appreciate the richness of the park we must mention the importance of the coral reeft that extends shaped like a fan in front of Punta Cahuita . Hire a boat with a local guide to show you the most interesting snorkeling or diving spots. Among the marine species identified there are: 128 seaweeds, 123 colorful fish, 140 mollusks and 35 different species of corals.
