Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio is one of the most visited National Parks in Coata Rica, second only to Poas. Approximately 160,000 visitors annually travel to the park and enjoy the white sand beaches that slope down from the lush forest into the turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean. Among the beaches in the park Espadilla Sur, Manuel Antonio and Puerto Escondido are the most stunning.
The park´s 683 hectares boast one some of the country’s most varied and breathtaking scenery. Its habitat consists of primary and secondary forest, marsh and littoral woodland, an 18-hectare lagoon and mangrove swamp and some 12 protected islands off of the coast that offer an excellent refugeto many species of sea birds.
Over 200 species of birds and approximately 100 species of mammals have been identified in the park. The most common species that can be seen by walking through the park trails are: the white-faced capuchin monkey, the howler monkey, the two and three–toed sloth, the white nosed coati, the raccoons and the iguana.
It is also the home of the endangered squirrel monkey (Mono Titi - Saimiri oerstedii citrinellus) which is endemic to Manuel Antonio—that is, it is found only in this part of the world. It seems that only about 1,500 are surviving in the area. The olive ridley and the pacific green turtles occasionally nest on the beaches.
The park is open daily from 7:00 am to 4 pm. Closed on Mondays.
