Barva Volcano, is reached by driving through Heredia, then turn north and drive through Barva, San Jose de la Montaña and Sacramento.

The last 3.1 m. (4 km) to the ranger station (“puesto”) is generally only accessible by hiking.

Located on the western border of Braulio Carrillo National Park, Barva Volcano National Park is a very densely forested area.
Barva is the only volcano of the Central Mountain Range that has been inactive for the past 400 years.
