This park is formed by an area of deciduous forest of 1780 hectares and 290 hectares of evergreen forest.
This park offers a vast underground system of more than 40 caves created by a combination of rainfall and erosion. Of the 19 explored caves the one with regular access to the public is the of 62 m-deep (203 feet) La Terciopelo featuring stalagmites, stalactites and other very unusual formations creating an ideal habitat for salamanders, bats, fish and a variety of invertebrates.
Permits are required to enter other caves like Santa Ana , being the deepest at some 250 mts (829 feet), Tramp, Nicoya and Pozo Hediondo, guides are available at a reasonable fee.
Among the most spotted animal species we find white_faced capuchin monkeys (Cebus capucinus) coyaotes (Canis latrans) and white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
How to get there: From the town of Nicoya to Pueblo Viejo-nacaome-Park entrance 22 kms (13.8miles)
