Golf in Costa Rica

A few years ago, a golf vacation in Costa Rica was limited, but now world class courses in Costa Rica are designed to challenge the avid golfer from the around the world.

Costa Rica offers some of the world's least crowded golf courses that are teamed up with world class resorts. Courses began appearing in Costa Rica around 1944.

The first championship 18 hole golf course was designed for the Cariari Country Club by architect George Fazio in the 1970's. Today's courses once cow pastures or coffee plantations have given way to world class golf designs with ocean front views and majestic mountain settings.

Valle Del Sol The only public golf course in Costa Rica.

Valle del Sol Golf Course, pleases the players who daily enjoy an elegant game in tune with nature, scenic beauty and the exceptional Santa Ana weather. This course is a public course in a private residential community and one of the few in Costa Rica that are not resort connected. Valle Del Sol is a wide open course with gently sloping fairways; the first nine holes are pretty diverse and require all the clubs in your bag.

With the nearby mountains always in view the wind can make it very challenging along fifteen separate lakes that surround the near perfect fairways.

This championship George Fazio designed course was founded in 1974. The land was once a coffee plantation. It is heavily wooded with narrow fairways and only a few fairway bunkers. The Bermuda grass greens are fairly large, fast and well-bunkered. Cariari Country Club is one of the best in the country.

The English name for Garra de Leon is Lion's Paw. This Robert Trent Jones, II golf course at the Meliá Playa Conchal Beach & Golf Resort is ranked top 100 in the world. This course took four years to build and was well worth the wait. Garra De Leon is a very big ocean course with large undulating greens, sweeping narrow fairways with tall trees and magnificent vistas surrounding you on every hole.

The 7,300-yard, par 72 masterpiece golf course is the creation of Mike Young, who is responsible for some of the finest courses in the southern United States.

Each hole was designed to conform to the slopes and contours of the natural landscape. Not only has he met the highest standards required by international golf organizations in building the course, but recently the property earned certification as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for its preservation of the ecological balance of the area.

Here, golfers have a course that offers picturesque scenery, immaculate conditions, frequent glimpses of exotic wildlife and it's a course you'll not only want to play again and again, but you'll want the pride of ownership for years to come.
