Guanacaste
The province of Guanacaste on the North Pacific coast is Costa Rica's sunniest and driest area.
It's the proverbial world apart. The land looks more likely to John Wayne's wild west then tropical C.R. where cattle raisers wearing typical cowboy hat drive their herds of cattle on flat, harsh and dry grassland. It' s a place where one's biting the dust!
Guanacaste was annexed to Costa Rica the 25th of July 1824, it was the last region to join the Republic and the one who gave C.R. most of its cultural inheritance.
"Ganaderos" (cowboys), "topes" (horse parades), "corridas de toros " (bullfighting) - along with their folk dances, songs and ballads of Guanacaste origins - are now integral part of the country's folklore.
