Playa Flamingo
Located at 35 km (22 mi) west of Belén, 3 km (2 mi) south of Playa Potrero
Flamingo was one of the first of the northern Nicoya beaches to experience the wonders of overscale resort development, a fact immortalized in the huge concrete towers that dominate the landscape.
The beach, however, is still a welcome oasis, and a fleet of sportfishing boats is moored in the busy marina. To get to Playa Flamingo from Playa Ocotal, you drive northeast to Playas Coco, then east on the main road, south to Belén, and then west. If you have four-wheel drive and an excellent sense of direction, you can attempt to drive (dry season only) the 16-km (11-mi) Monkey Trail, which cuts through the mountains from Coco to Flamingo. Be careful even some Ticos got lost on this route.
