Playa Hermosa

Located at 35 km (22 mi) southwest of Liberia, 25 km (16 mi) southwest of airport.

Playa Hermosa, not to be confused with the mainland beach of the same name south of Jacó, has a relaxed village atmosphere that recalls a Mexican beach town.

Rows of sunny villas mostly built by American and Canadian and European expatriates are springing up almost everywhere, thus giving Hermosa a nice residential feel.

The full length of the Hermosa beach has long been occupied by small hotels, restaurants, and local residentīs homes, new behemoth hotels and other development projects have been forced to set up shop off the beach or on other beaches in the area.

Playa Hermosa's crescent of grayish sand fronts a line of trees -- a welcome respite from the heat of the sun. At the beach's north end, low tide creates wide, rock-lined tidal pools.

Playa Panama, just to the north, is a dark-sand beach that is rapidly being developed with large all-inclusive resorts and luxury condominiums.
