Playa Negra
Most North Americans, expecially surfers got their first look at Playa Negra in The Endless Summer II, which featured some dynamite sessions at this spectacular rock-reef point break.
Surfing cognoscenti will dig the waves, which are almost all "rights" and often beautifully shaped. Surfer culture is also apparent in the wave of casual restaurants, health-food bakeries, internet cafés, and bikini shops springing up along the road. A roadside tent bazaar sells sarongs and crafts.
Check out this interesting review on the movie The Endless Summer II, written by Daniel Hinojas:
"... another great trip. Costa Rica was beautiful, and full of great waves. One place they went, Ollies Point, was named after Oliver North.
Bruce (the film director n.d.r.) said something like, everyone, but Congress, knew what Ollie was up to. I guess some of his arms shipments to the Contras came in from around this point."
