Playa Tambor
Tambor is set in the valley of a large, calm horseshoe bay, the Bahia Ballena (Whale Bay). These giants used to come to the bay during the dry dry season.
Nowadays, due to the increasing coastal activity, whales prefer to stay further offshore.
The dark volcanic sand beaches of the bay are wide and soft, and the shallow water offers perfect swimming for even the most timid of bathers.
The Tambor valley is surrounded by densely forested hills, which form part of the biological corridor running through Costa Rica. Nearby, the Curu Wildlife Reserve provides an opportunity to see many animals and to admire the lush vegetation.
This tranquil little village is a long-time favorite with retired foreigners who appreciate the laid-back lifestyle in a peaceful local community along with the conveniences that Tambor offers, such as golf, tennis and a small airport providing four daily 25 minutes flights to Costa Rica's capital San Jose.
For travelers Tambor offers various lodging options, from deluxe international hotels to small, but welcoming cabinas.
