Playas del Coco
Located at 35 km (22 mi) southwest of Liberia
Playas del Coco has a reputation as a slightly seedy beachfront town. But if you like your resorts to have some local color, Coco's scruffy pier, slightly down-at-the-heels appearance, and trinket and souvenir stands can be appealing.
Being one of the most accessible beaches in Guanacaste, it serves as an excellent playground for Costa Rica's college kids. During Christmas and Easter period it gets very crowded.
But there is always a quieter area in Costa Rica and Playa del Coco is no exception, check out the north part of the beaches with its lovely grown-up restaurants and hotels.
For surfers, this is the only point of departure for boat trips to famed Ollie's Point and Witch's Rock.
