Hotel Punta Islita

Perched on the crest of a hill in the northwest corner of the province of Guanacaste and overlooking the Pacific Ocean is Hotel Punta Islita. It is a veritable paradise hidden from the world by a magical jungle. This boutique hotel has only 32 rooms and three villas. All of the rooms have a private terrace complete with hammock. Warning: If you don't like feeling like being in the middle of nowhere – don't visit Punta Islita. There are no room phones and limited cell phone service. The best way to get there is by plane (about a 45 minute trip from San Jose), foregoing a 4 ½ hour "careful" drive from San Jose, or 3 hours from Liberia.

The beach area is marvellous.

The sand is black, but clean nevertheless.

The volcanic rocks out in the water make for an interesting walk during low tide. The beach restaurant and bar are great for an afternoon snack and drink. The main restaurant (1492 Restaurant) is more elegant and you can expect to listen to great evening music.

For those who can't sit still, the hotel does offer several activities during the day - including kayaking, ATV and horseback riding excursions, surfing lessons, and the famous Canopy Tour.

Of course, no world class is complete without a spa. And Punta Islita is no exception. Its Casa Spa is a holistic delight, featuring a wide range of delightful wraps and herbal remedies.
