Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio National ParkManuel Antonio is one of Costa Rica's best known and most often visited parks. People will tell you this is one of the prettiest places in Costa Rica. Manuel Antonio is diminutive in size (1,680 acres) as compared to the other National Parks in Costa Rica has so much to offer as far as beauty and diversity of wildlife.

Manuel Antonio has an astonishing combination of rain forest, beaches and coral reefs.

Hiking trails through abundant, tropical jungle where one can see the most notable species of monkeys common to this area which are Squirrel, Howler, and Capchin moving from branch to branch.

The three-toed Sloth is also common in the park and can be see doing what they do best and that is sleeping in the trees. They spend on average of about 16 hours a day sleeping and digesting the large amounts of vegetation they consume.

Manuel Antonio ViewOne tenth of all bird species in the world inhabit Costa Rica one of the most notable species in the park is the magnificent scarlet macaw which can be seen flying in pairs on the higher branches. Iguanas which present a fearsome appearance to humans are harmless and can be seen moving along tree trunks. One trail leading up to an observation tower has breathtaking 360° view. Licensed local guides are available at the park's entrance and are worth the investment.

The park has four beaches, each with its own character. Playa Manuel Antonio, Playita, Escondido, and Espadrille Sur. The prettiest is Playa Manuel Antonio, a small boomerang shaped beach of white sand and a small coral reef. All beaches are within walking distance from the front entrance and are a favorite among Tico’s on weekends with their families.

Manuel Antonia Park offers its visitors a spirit of discovery and adventure, and an astonishing array of flora and fauna. There is a sense of life here you have to experience it’s what the Tico’s call Pura Vida!  

Closed Mondays .Due to the popularity of the park visitation, off season is recommended. In high season arrive early in the day, most crowds arrive around noon especially on weekends and holidays. Overcrowding and the adverse effects it was having on this reserve led the park service to limit the number visitors to 600 on weekdays and 800 on weekends and holidays.
